Lipolysis / Lipo-Dissolve / Flab Jab

Lipo-Dissolve / Injection lipolysis (the "Flab Jab"), an exciting non invasive sculpturing technique to melt away unwanted abdominal fat or muffin rolls....Far better than Belkyra injections.

Key Points

  • Non surgical treatment
  • No anaesthetic required
  • Fat just melts away
  • Walk in, walk out procedure
  • Minimal downtime
  • No bandages or garments required
In 2002, Dr Beulink introduced to New Zealand this exciting new non invasive, innovative, walk in walk out, injection sculpting technique to remove fat.

Lipo-Dissolve or otherwise known as Injection Lipolysis, is a non-invasive procedure that requires multiple fine injections of active ingredients into the treatment area beneath the skin to seemingly melt away fat and expel it from the body.

The theory behind lipolysis is that together the ingredients cause fat to liquefy, dissolve and be eliminated from the body. Various ingredients may be used including combinations of vitamins and certain medications, depending upon the particular clinical condition. This can be an effective treatment to remove pockets of fat on the face, neck and body.

Unlike surgery, these treatments are usually relatively simple, require no post-operative recovery time, require no heavy bandages or garments, and no anaesthetic is necessary.

The cosmetic application of injection lipolysis in our clinic includes removal of small, stubborn, unwanted pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise, reduction of lower eyelid pads, double chin and jowl areas, body sculpturing and defining body contours. Lipolysis is not suitable for weight loss and should be combined with a healthy lifestyle including a sensible exercise and dietary programme for optimal results. Some fat deposits are especially suited for treatment while others are not. Sometimes lipolysis may be combined with tumescent Liposuction for best results.

Treatments consist of 1 to 4 treatments (usually 2 or 3) approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart, depending on healing. Following each treatment localised swelling, redness and a light burning sensation is expected and usually lasts 12 to 24 hours. A more persistent low grade reaction phase consisting of firmness or thickening then occurs, usually lasting for approximately three weeks. Many patients see a result after the first or second treatment, although for optimal results extra treatments may be required.

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT the same as the Belkyra injections.
Belkyra is a "copy cat" type of treatment made by Allergan Pharmaceutical Company and introduced to New Zealand and the world approximately 3 or 4 years ago. It was launched with great fan fare and hype, but in reality has had questionable clinical results. The Belkyra formulation is weak, expensive, and has only limited applications (under chin only). Numerous patients have been upset by this.

Dr Beulink has tried and no longer uses this Belkyra product. Dr Beulink instead, continues to use the original lipo-dissolving formulations to successfully remove fat.

Dr Beulink’s Personal Comments – Lipolysis / Lipo-Dissolve

This procedure works very well on small, well defined pockets of fat such as jowls and under the chin. It can also be beneficial for reducing inner thighs and upper arms, and can be especially useful as an adjunct tool to clean up small areas following liposuction.

It is not particularly suited for larger areas of fat such as entire abdomens, where treatment could require excessively large doses of ingredients, large numbers of injections, excessive discomfort, and numerous treatment sessions. For such cases, tumescent Liposuction would be more appropriate.

I have found that the larger the immediate reaction to the treatment (e.g.; swelling, redness) the better the result.

Lack of results and serious side effects such as skin necrosis, ulcers, severe bacterial infections, granuloma or persistent chronic inflammation and scarring have been reported in certain articles on the web and in the media. I firmly believe these reactions are largely due to poor lipolysis techniques, including over-zealous and inappropriate use, poor sterile techniques, treatment performed by inadequately trained injectors, including nurses and non medical lay people, and perhaps the use of non medical grade ingredients. To date I have had overall excellent results with no such complications. In short, choose your injector carefully!

Ensure your consultation is with, and your lipolysis is performed only by a registered doctor, who is well versed with the lipolysis technique, and who has an in depth understanding of the pharmacology, anatomy and aesthetic principals of the treatment areas.
